The Chandra X-Ray Observatory is one of NASA's Great Observatories: a high-resolution imaging and spectrographic telescope operating in the X-ray part of the electro-magnetic spectrum. Chandra was launched by the Space Shuttle Columbia on July 23, 1999.

The Chandra Data Archive (CDA) is part of the Chandra X-Ray Observatory Science Center (CXC) which is operated for NASA by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.
