Hotel Reservations
Reduced-rate rooms are available at the meeting site, the Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston. The room rate is $189/night plus 12.45% hotel taxes. This rate is available for the evenings of 29 October through 6 November, allowing guests to spend either weekend in Cambridge as well. In order to take advantage of the symposium rate, reservations must be made by 1 October.
Contact the hotel directly for reservations, and use the room rate identifier "Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory":
- Phone: 617-806-4200
- Fax: 617-806-4232
If you will be attending both the symposium and the Chandra Calibration Workshop, please mention so when making your reservation.
Hotel reservations may be canceled up to 24 hours before the scheduled arrival. Note that the hotel charges a $25 early departure fee to any guest who departs earlier than the date confirmed at check-in.
Parking
Parking is available at the hotel. For overnight guests, the cost is $19 and allows multiple entries to the garage. Day attendees pay $13, which is a single-entry garage fee.
It is not necessary to have a car in Cambridge! If you are traveling from out of town, we recommend that you do not rent a car and instead use the extensive public transportation system to get around. The Royal Sonesta also offers complimentary shuttle service to popular locations around Cambridge and Boston.
Travel
To travel between the hotel and Logan Airport, you may wish to make a reservation with a shuttle service, such as JC Transportation, ahead of time. While taxi service is available from the airport, shuttle services are typically much cheaper. Other shuttle options are listed on the Shared Van transportation section of the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) website.
Driving directions to the Royal Sonesta are available from the "Getting There" section of the hotel website. Also included are directions on reaching the hotel by public transportation (MBTA trains, aka "the T").
The MBTA is easily accessible from both Logan Airport (Blue Line to Green Line) and Amtrak's South Station stop (Red Line). The train costs $1.25 per ride, which includes transfers between connecting lines.
