Chandra Calibration Workshop

Monday, 31 October to Tuesday, 1 November

The Chandra Calibration Workshop (CCW) is taking place at the Royal Sonesta Hotel on the two days prior to this symposium (31 October - 1 November). The purpose of this workshop is to share the Chandra calibration teams' knowledge of the detectors and mirrors with the community while encouraging participation and feedback in the process of calibrating the satellite. This year, there will be a special session on "Incorporating Calibration Uncertainties into Data Analysis" on Tuesday afternoon (November 1).

There is no registration fee for this workshop, but you must register to attend. Visit the CCW website for more information.

Dinner Reception & Registration

Tuesday, 1 November at 6 PM

Registration will be open on Tuesday evening for attendees to pick up their badges and symposium materials. Everyone is invited to join the Science Organizing Committee at a dinner reception in the hotel.

Enhancing Chandra Images for Publication and Public Outreach

Wednesday, 2 November from 12:50 PM - 1:50 PM

This special session, presented by members of the Chandra Education & Public Outreach (EPO) group, will discuss tips & tricks for preparing Chandra images suitable for a range of publications and media (eg., RGB to CMYK conversion, different file formats and resolution issues). We will also cover how to submit images for press/product consideration, and briefly outline the process involved in selecting material for various public uses. We will also include a short presentation on useful software, such as Adobe Photoshop and FitsLiberator.

The seminar is designed with scientists' needs in mind and is scheduled during a lunch break so that it does not conflict with any of the symposium talks.

Symposium Dinner

Thursday, 3 November from 6:30 PM - 10:30 PM

The symposium dinner will be held at the Boston Museum of Science. Included in this event is a private viewing of the museum's special exhibit Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination.

At 7:00 PM, commemorative remarks will be made at the Current Science and Technology Stage in the Blue Wing of the Museum.

All attendees receive a ticket for this event as part of the symposium registration. Please see the Registration page for ticket pricing for guests.
