Analyzing HETG Data
HETG Data Analysis
- The Chandra data archive
contains all of the Chandra data which have been
processed by the CXC. Most observations are proprietary for one year, after which
they become public.
- Analysis ready HETG data products (PHA, ARF, RMF) can be viewed and retrieved from the TGCat.
- WebChaSeR is an
online tool to search and download Chandra data. See also the CIAO thread showing additional methods for
downloading data from the archive.
- Standard Data
Processing is the "pipeline" reduction that is
performed on all Chandra science data.
-
The following software packages can be used to analyze HETG data:
- Sherpa is the CIAO
modeling and fitting application.
- XSPEC
and FTOOLS
are the HEASARC's package for X-ray spectral analysis.
- PINTofALE is a
package for the interactive analysis
of line emission.
- ISIS is a package for
general spectroscopic analysis and an interface to ATOMDB for
detailed line emission analysis.
- CIAO
Guide to HETG/ACIS-S Analysis
- The Analysis Guide for Chandra High Resolution Spectroscopy provides a comprehensive overview of the processing and analysis of Chandra data obtained with the transmission grating instruments.
HETG Data Products
- An Introduction to
Data Products gives a description of the data files in a typical
Chandra observation.
- Data Products Basics gives an introduction to file formats,
software versions and calibration products.
- The Data Products Guide
gives descriptions of all files created by standard processing.
- The Calibration Database
contains the latest calibration files. CALDB files are in standard FITS format and designed for use in CIAO and other analysis programs.
- TGCat is a source of
analysis-ready products.
