Chandra Electronic Announcement #21
CHANDRA ELECTRONIC ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER 21 First Announcement of the Joint Conference on X-ray Diagnostics of Astrophysical Plasmas November 15-17, 2004 held at the Sheraton Commander Hotel, Cambridge, MA, USA ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Colleague, We are pleased to announce a conference, jointly sponsored by the Institute for Theoretical Atomic and Molecular Physics (ITAMP), the Chandra X-ray Center, the Constellation-X mission, and the Astro-E2 Guest Observer Facility, on "X-ray Diagnostics of Astrophysical Plasmas". The meeting will concentrate on X-ray diagnostics of plasma parameters, including theoretical, experimental, and observational results on emission and absorption line diagnostics. Particular emphasis will be given to recent progress in dielectronic and inner-shell lines. Invited speakers come from fields of atomic theory, experimental atomic physics, and spectroscopy. We hope bring recent results from these fields to the larger audience of X-ray astronomers who are using the Chandra and XMM-Newton grating data or who plan to use the high-resolution data from Astro-E2. A detailed description of the meeting, including information on registration and submitting contributed talks and posters, can be found on the conference website: http://itamp.harvard.edu/xdap.html Partial List of Topics -- Experimental results on Fe K shell emission lines -- Observational and Experimental Fe L shell spectroscopy -- Recent results in inner-shell emission lines -- Observed Inner-shell lines from SNR -- Dielectronic Recombination: experimental results, observational effects -- Open Issues Regarding Ionization Balances -- Absorption models for photoionized plasmas -- Non-equilibrium ionization plasma diagnostics Contributed Presentations In addition to the invited presentations, approximately 10 contributed talks will be scheduled. Participants are also invited to contribute posters. Financial Assistance Limited funds are available for financial support for the meeting participants. Preference in providing support will be given to younger scientists and students. Deadlines Note: Attendance will be limited to 150 participants. August 15: Early registration deadline September 15: Abstract submission and late registration deadline Conference Website: Information and registration: Contact: xdap@athena.gsfc.nasa.gov This Electronic Bulletin is used for the dissemination of important announcements and information about the Chandra X-Ray Observatory to members of the community.
