HRC CCB Status |

Number: HRC-R-002
Type: Restriction
Original Date: 6/13/95
Subsystem: HRC
Subject: Lowered MCP HV in Radiation Zones
Source: Informal CARD inputs, e-mail, M. Juda, 9/11/95, SOP01
CRL Statement:
The MCP HV level must be lowered when AXAF is in a high particle radiation
environment defined by:
-
Regions where
- the flux of electrons with energies greater than 1 MeV exceeds 5
electron/s/cm2 or
- the flux of protons with energies greater than 1 MeV exceeds 5 proton/s/cm2
-
Solar storms.
CRL Rationale/Justification:
The HRC sensitivity to the particle radiation environment is derived from
the HRC design.
CRL Impact:
High rates (200 counts/sec/cm2) generated by the particle radiation
environment will permanently degrade HRC performance.
Recommended Action:
Incorporate into the Systems and Operations Procedures, with ASC providing
the inputs, and the OFLS and Operations Database (1 only), the EPHIN Flight
Software (2 only).
