Science Demands: Effective Area

• Late-type stars, hot plasma sources

  • Collision strengths, ion fractions only accurate to ~25%

• Optically thick sources, eg hot WD, models arguably no better than 10%

• Most LETGS targets are point sources; many strongly variable
