Item 1. Chandra X-ray Observatory Cycle 6 Call for Proposals
        ====================================================

Release Date: December 15, 2003
Proposal Deadline: March 12, 2004

On behalf of the Chandra Project and NASA, the Chandra X-ray Center is
pleased to announce the release of the Cycle 6 Call for Proposals (CfP).
The CfP invites scientists to participate in the Chandra X-ray
Observatory's science program through proposing for new observations, for
archival research projects or for theory/modeling projects in support of
understanding Chandra data. Participation in this program is open to all
categories of organizations, both domestic and foreign, including
educational institutions, profit and nonprofit organizations, NASA Centers,
and other Government agencies. This solicitation will be open from December
15, 2003 through March 12, 2004, 6:00pm EST, and proposals may be submitted
throughout this period. Results of the selection are expected to be
announced in July 2004.

Technical information on the Chandra X-ray Observatory, software tools to
assist in planning proposals, the proposal submission software (RPS) and
all other information concerning this CfP are available electronically from
the CXC World-Wide Web site: "Proposer" Web Page with URL:

Questions may be submitted to the CXC Helpdesk at URL:

Item 2. CIAO 3.0.2 Patch and CALDB 2.25 Released - 15 December 2003
        ===========================================================

++ The CIAO 3.0.2 patch (requiring CIAO3.0.1 installed) and version 2.25
of the CALDB are now available to download from:

http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/download_ciao_reg.html

The CIAO 3.0.2 patch contains bug fixes to the Data Model library,
Sherpa, and a few CIAO tools. It also contains updated proposal tools
for the Cycle 6 Call for Proposals. Read the patch release notes
(http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/releasenotes/) for full details.

++ In tandem with CIAO3.0.2 is the release of the Chandra Calibration
Database CALDB 2.25
Release Notes are available at:
http://cxc.harvard.edu/caldb/Release_notes/CALDB_v2.25.txt

Several tools requires CALDB2.25 therefore it *must* be
downloaded and installed (or upgraded from an earlier version) to run
CIAO 3.0.2.

++ If you have never installed CIAO3.0 in your system, you should
download the "full" CIAO3.0.2 installation which includes CIAO3.0 and
all patches.

++ Everything will be copied shortly on the European mirror site at:

http://chandra.ledas.ac.uk/ciao/download_ciao_reg.html

As always please send questions to the CXC HELPDESK
(http://cxc.harvard.edu/helpdesk/).

Antonella Fruscione (for the CIAO development team)
