X-ray nuclear emission of radio galaxies with Chandra

Abstract

As part of our GO2 survey of extragalactic jets (see talk by R. Sambruna, this meeting), we obtained Chandra observations of a sample of 17 radio galaxies, spanning the redshift range z=0.06-1.9. In this poster we report on the X-ray spectral properties of the bright cores of the sources. Typically, several hundred counts were detected from the cores, allowing a detailed spectral study. We detect an Fe Kalpha emission line from a z=0.8 quasar, and an X-ray column density in excess to the Galactic value along the line of sight to a z=1.9 source. We will also combine the X-ray spectra of the cores with published multiwavelength fluxes to construct broad-band spectral energy distributions. The implications for the physics of radio-loud sources will be discussed.
