Matching CIAO and CALDB VersionsCIAO 4.0 requires CALDB 3.4.0 or higher to operate properly. Are your versions mismatched? Time to update CIAO and CALDB! Source Detection and Cosmic-Ray AfterglowsCIAO users who are trying to detect sources of about 10 counts or less should be aware of potential confusion with cosmic-ray afterglows that have not been removed from the data. The Cosmic-Ray Afterglows why topic explains the limitations of the current tools and describes analysis tips to help eliminate more of the afterglows. 15 Sep 2008 The Chandra Contributed Software page has been updated to include a variety of analysis packages and tools which are widely used in the community. Other Software for Chandra Data Analysis (Note that this is a new URL as well.) Contributions to the page should be submitted through the Helpdesk. 8 Sep 2008 CALDB 3.5.0 has been released for use with CIAO 3.4 and CIAO 4.0. Information on the patch is available from the CALDB 3.5.0 Release Notes and How CALDB 3.5.0 Affects Your Analysis. 23 Jun 2008 CALDB 3.4.5 has been released for use with CIAO 3.4 and CIAO 4.0. Information on the patch is available from the CALDB 3.4.5 Release Notes and How CALDB 3.4.5 Affects Your Analysis. |
Download the CIAO WebsiteUsers doing analysis on laptops, or those with slow internet connections, may find it useful to view the CIAO website from their own system. The website can be downloaded with the GNU wget software. In practice, wget behaves like a smart version of an 'mget' (of the ftp protocol). Users in Europe may find connection speeds are much higher when using the Leicester mirror of the CXC website. The CIAO website is constantly being updated online so that it is of the best use to you. If you choose to download the site to your local system, be sure to check back often for improvements and corrections. Running wgetwget v1.9.1 (at least) is required for the command options used here. Download ALL of the CIAO website (about 510 MB):unix% wget -k -p -m -np -nv -x http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao4.0/ Download the CIAO website, EXCLUDING .ps, .pdf, and gzipped files (about 60 MB):unix% wget -k -p -m -np -nv -x --reject=pdf,ps,ps.gz,tar.gz http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao4.0/ The --reject option is used to exclude all files ending in ps or pdf. These are mainly hardcopy versions of the threads and ahelp files and presentations from the CIAO workshops. The data files for the detect threads, which end in tar.gz, are also excluded. Running wget as shown above will create a new directory called "cxc.harvard.edu" with a subdirectory structure: unix% ls cxc.harvard.edu/ ciao4.0/ incl/ Simply run netscape - or your favourite browser - with something analogous to the following argument: unix% netscape cxc.harvard.edu/ciao4.0/index.html & |
