CalDB Public Release Notes Version 3.0.2 CalDB date: 2005-03-23T15:00:00 (10:00AM EST) Standard Data Processing Only CalDB 3.0.2 includes only an upgrade to the ACIS bad pixel files effective for operations at -120C focal plane temperature. This has been released in standard data processing simultaneously with the DS software upgrade version 7.5.3, as of 2005-03-23T16:01:00 (11:01 AM EST). Because CIAO does not use the CalDB BADPIX lists, but instead uses the "bpix1" file that comes with each observation's primary data products, this upgrade is not be released to the public. It will be subsumed in future public releases, however. I. Summary of Changes ACIS BADPIX -120C files (5 new files): Location: $CALDB/data/chandra/acis/bcf/badpix/ Filenames Validity Start Date: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. acisD2000-01-29badpixN0002.fits 2000-01-29T20:00:00 2. acisD2000-07-04badpixN0002.fits 2000-07-04T06:00:00 3. acisD2000-07-06badpixN0002.fits 2000-07-06T21:00:00 4. acisD2000-08-12badpixN0002.fits 2000-08-12T22:00:00 *************************************************************************** * The datasets above all have the same bad pixels listed. Multiple files * are used to cover the time-dependence in the ACIS focal plane temperature, * which was switched back and forth intentionally between -110C and -120C * for calibration purposes. The file below contains additional bad pixels * which appeared on or after 2000-11-28. *************************************************************************** 5. acisD2000-11-28badpixN0002.fits 2000-11-28T00:00:00 This last file will be the one used in current processing. The others will be used during the appropriate DATE-OBS intervals in the upcoming reprocessing activity for the Chandra archive ("Repro III"). Files retired in 3.0.2: acisD2002-01-23badpixN0001.fits acisD2002-10-05badpixN0001.fits This last file is the one formerly in current processing, but which will no longer be used. Pipes, tools affected: ACIS L1 acis_build_badpix. Threads affected: None. These files are never used in CIAO analysis. II. Technical details The new ACIS calibration web page for the bad pixel lists, "ACIS Bad Pixels and Columns for FP temperature = -120 C" is located at: http://cxc.harvard.edu/cal/Acis/Cal_prods/badpix/badpix_2005_02_21.html There are links herein to the exact bad pixel lists used in these files. These lists are stored by the ACIS calibration team in *.rdb files. The FITS files specify additionally any immediately adjacent pixels to the ones in these lists. Hence for every specified bad pixel specified in the *.rdb files, the 3x3 event island will also be included in the BADPIX FITS file. This means that for full columns of bad pixels in the "rdb" files, as another example, the adjacent columns will also be included in the FITS tables. The adjacent pixel specification standard is the same as that followed by the previous ACIS badpix files in the CalDB. The FITS file format is the same as before. Only the lists of pixels included have been changed.
