ATOMDB Downloads

Current Version: 1.3.1

Each release of the ATOMDB contains the following files:

  • The most up-to-date version of APED, including all publicly available energy level, radiative transition, and electronic collisional excitation files.
  • A spectral calculation from APEC using this version of APED
  • Release notes, describing the changes made in the new release and any caveats about it.

In an effort to keep users informed on the progress of ATOMDB development, we now ask users for some basic information prior to downloading the software. The ATOMDB software links in this page are not active, but instead lead to a simple registration page where users are prompted for their name, email address, and operating system. Simply click on one of these links, or go to the Registration Page. After completing the form, click "Submit", and you will be returned to this page, with all download links active.

The latest version of the ATOMDB can be downloaded here or from the official CIAO download page.

FileLink (size)
Data atomdb.tar.gz (approximately 21 MB; 135 MB uncompressed - click to download, DO NOT shift-click)
Readme file See ATOMDB installation page.

In addition, we have created a number of utility routines that read and manipulate the ATOMDB, including IDL routines that can read the files and create model spectra. These can be downloaded here:

Readme file See IDL instructions

Both Sherpa and XSPEC can now read spectral files created by APEC. The APEC output routines are a separate library, called fitsspec, available here for those potentially interested in creating their own spectral output files. Please contact us if you are interested in using these or need any help with them:
