Item 1. Special Call for Archival Proposals making use of DDT
            data on the Chandra Deep Field South
=============================================================

A ``Dear Colleague" letter soliciting archival proposals to reduce and analyze
the CDFS data, beyond the standard and merged data products to be provided by
the CXC, has been released today, 14 Sept 2007.

The proposal deadline is 7 November 2007 at 5pm.

Please refer to the CXC website for more information.

Item 2.  Chandra Calibration Workshop
=====================================

25 Oct 2007, Huntsville, AL

The Chandra Calibration Workshop (CCW) will be held at the conclusion
of the 8 Years of Chandra Symposium. Calibration related posters will
be displayed all through during the Symposium, and talks will be presented
in an afternoon session on Thursday, October 25. For registration and
abstract submission instructions, please see

Item 3. The "Visualizing Astronomy at the CfA" Series
======================================================

The CXC EPO group is pleased to announce the return of this series of
talks aimed at engaging the scientific community -- including those
using Chandra data -- in the challenges of visualizing astronomical data
and results. The full schedule, along with the speakers and the titles
of the talks, can be found at: http://hea-www.harvard.edu/~ascpub/viztalks/

Webcast: Each presentation will be available to view online as a live
webcast (requires realplayer) at

Item 4. Two announcements from the High Energy Division of the AAS
===================================================================

Nominations are now being solicited for the Rossi Prize.

The Rossi Prize is awarded annually in honor of Bruno Rossi ``for a
significant contribution to High Energy Astrophysics, with particular
emphasis on recent, original work.''

The prize includes a cash award, a citation, and an invited lecture by
the recipient at a meeting of the Division. This is usually a plenary
talk to the whole AAS at its January meeting.

A nomination for the prize, consisting of a written letter of support,
may be made by any member of the High Energy Division and should be
sent to Christine Jones (Secretary-Treasurer of the Division) by
October 15. Selection of the prize recipient will be made by the
full Executive Committee of the Division.

Additional information about the nomination and award can be found
at http://www.aas.org/head/rossi/rossi.nomin.html

Nominations may be sent by regular mail (Christine Jones, Center for
Astrophysics, MS-3, 60 Garden St. Cambridge MA 02138) or as attached
.pdf file (cjones@cfa.harvard.edu). A confirmation that the nomination
was received will be sent by email to the nominator.

HEAD Executive Committee nominating committee

This fall the High Energy Division will be electing a
Vice-Chair, a Secretary-Treasurer and three new members
of the Executive Committee. A nominating committee consisting
of Alice Harding (Chair), Joel Bregman and Fiona Harrison will
be putting together a slate of candidates. If you would like
to make suggestions for nominations, please contact a member
of that committee. Alternatively, the Division bylaws state
that a Division member also can be a candidate for a post if
nominated by ten or more members. Such nominations, along
with a statement that the nominee agrees to serve if elected,
should be sent to the Secretary-Treasurer Christine Jones (see
addresses above).
