Chandra Electronic Announcement #13
CHANDRA ELECTRONIC ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER 13 High-Energy Radiation from Black Holes: from Supermassive Black Holes to Galactic Solar Mass Black Holes
The meeting: -------------------------------- High-Energy Radiation from Black Holes: from Supermassive Black Holes to Galactic Solar Mass Black Holes -------------------------------- Will take place in the frame of the COSPAR symposium in Paris, July 18-25 2004. Sessions are planned on: The Galactic Centre Ultra-luminous X-ray sources Black Holes in Binary systems Active Galactic Nuclei: accretion and emission The Cosmic Evolution of AGN and Quiescent Galactic Nuclei Jets in the environement of black holes of all masses. Each session is intended to last half a day and will be introduced by one or possibly two reviews. Contributed talks of 20 minutes will follow. Abstracts must be submitted before February 15 directly to: Copernicus Gesellschaft 35th COSPAR Scientific Assembly Max-Planck-Strasse 13 D-37191 Kaltenburg-Lindau, Germany tel: 0049 5556 91099 Fax: 0049 5556 4709 or electronically to cospar@copernicus.org Instructions to submit abstracts may be found on the web at http://www.copernicus.org. Registration information may be found in the COSPAR bulletin 157 or on http://www.cospar2004.org. -------------------------------------- High energy astrophysics is benefiting from an unprecedented set of observational capacities. We will address results from the missions that have been launched in recent years. The main missions now in flight are Chandra, XMM-Newton and RXTE in the X-ray domain and INTEGRAL in the gamma rays. INTEGRAL, the youngest of the missions, was launched in October 2002. We therefore expect that the meeting will take place at a time when the results will beginn to be numerous. We will put a particular emphasis on work that involves several of the missions in a complementary manner. Both observational and theoretical interpretations will be discussed. We will address the physics of matter around compact objects and in particular black holes of all masses, from solar masses to supermassive objects in the center of galaxies, including intermediate mass objects. Both thermal and non thermal processes play a role in these objects. ------------------------------------------- The Scientific Organising Committee: T. Courvoisier, ISDC, Geneva (chair) P.
